Verifying real solidity
Beyond the portfolio, ask for numbers: years in business, number of projects delivered, client renewal rate, permanent team size.
A serious agency documents its methods, discusses its constraints, and never promises a #1 Google result in three weeks.
8 questions to ask before signing
- 1 Who actually works on my project?
- 2 What are your precise deliverables?
- 3 Who owns the code and content?
- 4 What happens after launch?
- 5 How do you measure success?
- 6 Have you worked in my industry?
- 7 What's your revision policy?
- 8 What's your process if we're not aligned?
A serious provider answers each of these questions without hesitation or dodging. Be wary of vague answers ('we'll see together', 'it depends') or refusals to share client references. Also ask to see a sample quote: a good quote lists every deliverable, every step, and clarifies what's included and what isn't.
Warning signs
A quote that's too low, numerical promises on SEO, no formalized method, refusal to share reachable references, a long commitment with no exit clause.
Finding the right fit
Human fit matters as much as technical skill. A web project lasts at least 8 to 12 weeks, sometimes longer. Choose a team you'll want to talk to every week.
